Greetings from the corner of Parkview and West Maple Street, my home office. This week lacked any on site interpreting assignments. My ATA mentor Courtney Searls-Ridge advised to always have a back up-plan. For me this means teleinterpreting with Language Services Associates.
Luckily Benoit Language Services http://www.benoitinc.com called with an assignment for tomorrow. They found my name on the ATA site http://www.atanet.org. Another mentor, Rudy Heller of the ATA, helped in the past with a key question. When asked “How much do you charge?” my response today is “XXX to XXX. What do you pay your interpreters?” Again, Courtney’s words came to mind that all contracts are negotiable. Benoit and I negotiated a fair rate including mileage.
Result? The online database and ATA mentors secured a new client. I could hear the sigh of relief when I accepted the assignment. Little did Benoit know that they helped me, too. Muchas thank you, ATA.
