NOTA hosted a Spring Coffee Hour at the Cleveland Public Library yesterday. Members offered suggestions to bolster an online presence and schedule upcoming events.

NEW OFFICERS
Boris Bosjnak assumes the Newsletter Chair and Catherine Piña now serves as Public Relations Chair. Look for good things from these folks soon.

CONNECT, CONNECT, CONNECT
I encouraged to Angret and others to write short article for NOTA’s next issue. The discussion turned to best strategies in the translator’s day-to-day activities. Ginger bookmarks folders with specialized terminology and prefers .org and .gov sites as compared to. com. Kemmie Mitzell, KIAL student, walked the group through the struggle to find just the right term https://appling.kent.edu. In a few minutes she her strategy to solve word dilemmas. Want to know how Kemmie rolls? Check out her article in NOTA BENE’s next edition. Do you have a story from the keyboard or onsite assignment that could benefit our community? Forward your experience to Boris Bosjnak, Newsletter Chair at bbosjnak09@jcu@edu.

A NEW WORD
Want to hear something cool from yesterday’s session? Transcreate. You’ll have to contact Vitaliy Plinto, NOTA Programs Chair, for more details. We linguists practice transcreation on a regular basis.

STRONGER VIRTUAL PRESENCE
NOTA hopes to begin twittering soon. Ginger Scheel gingerscheel@gmail.com patiently explained that Twitter http://www.twitter.com links followers through a focused message of 140 words and oftentimes a link. What a boggle! John suggested folks follow seasoned translators to become more familiar with the process.

ATA CERTIFICATION EXAM
NOTA will sponsor a sitting for the ATA exam on Saturday, May 16 in Dublin, Ohio. Please contact the ATA directly at this link for further information

KENTLINGUA, TREACHEROUS ROADS AND THE NEXT WORKSHOP
“If you build it, he will come” heard Ray Kinsella in the Iowa cornfield. The group batted about ideas to include Kent students in NOTA activities. Look for an informal coffee hour in the upcoming months in K-town. The past two winter banquets, held after Christmas, resulted in a low turnout due to ice-laden highways. Perhaps NOTA will schedule the 2015 affair before the holiday season ramps up. Vitaliy served up the possibility of a fall workshop at the Akron Public Library coupled with an excursion train ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad http://www.cvsr.com. Maybe we’ll end the day with an independent film at The Nightlight, Akron’s indie cinema http://www.nightlightcinema.com.

THANKS FOR COMING
A shout out to Rosaelena, Angret, Ginger, Kemmie, Hélène and Vitaliy who sacrificed a sunny day to explore ideas that keep NOTA vibrant. Till the next event.
